Robert Powell

Writer & Photographer

Sedbergh from Winder, 17th August 2011

Welcome to my website

From my home in Sedbergh in Cumbria I offer a number of media–related services including website design and commercial photography.

After taking a degree in French European Studies and Maths at UMIST (Manchester University), I spent a year as a hospital porter and advertising space salesman before starting what turned out to be several years work in radio, mostly for BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio Scotland, on magazine programmes such as You and Yours, Good Morning Scotland, Woman's Hour and Countryside in Spring.

I then taught Graphic Design, German and French in schools in Tameside, Greater Manchester, and English as a foreign language to adults and children in England, Iceland and Denmark. On giving up full–time teaching I returned to the media, but this time as a writer, photographer and, more recently, website designer.
